After reading book 1, Kithra, of this series, I just could not wait to read book 2, Replicant!

This story was a bit darker than Kithra. It was all about a woman’s fears, loneliness, desires.

I love when an heroine has flaws. In this story, it was raw emotions for many years until she broke in pieces. I think we are all a bit that way if something dramatic happens, we can have a very tough exterior but then all of a sudden, something trigger something in us and we have to get it out for the good or the worse.

Dani Worth started this series around one main subject: how to rebuild a new world from almost nothing. Is it possible? Can we do it alone?

Replicant is about grieving and guilt. How can someone deal with the fact that she was supposed to die and did not and lost all her love ones behind?

As you may notice I gave a 5 stars all around except sex level. Yes I am hard to please in this area. The only critic I would say in this story is that I felt as the equality was not there. I understand that she had to get some space to understand herself and it took time to fully be aware that she loved them but somehow I felt a bit upset that she did not see the love evolution between the two men. I thought she should have been there. I understand that she thought herself unworthy to be part of their love but I ached that she found peace only in the end of the story even if the men loved her from the start.

This is of course open to debate. What is it best? To jump in a stable relationship with 2 individuals that are without conflicts and are not struggling any homophobic issues or to learn each other weakness and force and build bit by bit a strong relationship based on knowledge learned little by little?

Hard to decide. In Replicant, since the story is centered about the heroine, I wanted more the men to focus on her. I felt in a way she was put aside. Maybe because the love of the 2 men already existed before her arrival. She was not really the third wheel but this is how I felt a little bit for a short time. But again, her absence was totally justified so it was a normal evolution of the love story.

Replicant will stir you emotions. The kind of emotions that we all have deep down for a reason or another. I felt it deeply. Maybe because I cannot slip myself when I read a romance and I need to relate to the character and the personality. Jarana is this kind of heroine that I love. I would have loved maybe a full chapter on what happened when she was kidnapped. I thought that needed to be developed. Janara is bi and I would have liked to read some FF sex. I prefer MM action versus FF but if an author portray her heroine as bi, then I expect some sex action in both genre ;)

I did not speak much about the two men but I both loved them. I felt in love with Maska. I could totally understand Erik all the way.

So yes. I enjoyed very much Replicant. Book 3, Catalyst is coming and I read that the author is thinking to write more about replicant race which is great news. I love when the authors find new paranormal races! So… do you think that I will read Catalyst when it will be out? heck ya!

Blurb

When a bounty hunter returns to her destroyed planet on the hunt for an escaped alien, the last thing she expects to find is love.

Jarana Gothbrun is the number one Tracker in the galaxies, famous for tagging Replicants—shape-shifting aliens who can take on humanoid forms once they have someone’s DNA. She has two more Replicants to catch in her current job, ones who escaped from a high-security prison planet. Unfortunately, one of them is currently on her home planet, Kithra. She hasn’t been back since a Replicant kidnapped her and took her off planet prior to its destruction.

Maska is engaged to Erik, who has no idea the love of his life is an escaped prisoner. Or male. When Jarana uses an untested device to force Maska’s shift to his native form, it puts him in danger and pisses off everyone on the planet. Her plan to fly in and out with her prisoner is put on hold as she has to deal with the people who’ve come to love Maska. Not to mention her own grief at the destruction of Kithra…and everyone she loved.

Product Warnings

Contains an angsty and sexy gender-bending alien, a confused, angsty and sexy human and an angsty too-tough heroine. Lots of sexy loving and oh, did I mention the ANGST?
